There are now more Americans in jail — 6 million — than there were in Stalin’s Gulag, reports Fareed Zakaria, in a column called “Incarceration Nation.”

And it’s not just a relative population thing.

The U.S. has 760 prisoners per 100,000 citizens. How does that compare to other countries?

It’s 7-10X as high:

  • Japan has 63 per 100,000,
  • Germany has 90 per 100,000
  • France has 96 per 100,000
  • South Korea has 97 per 100,000
  • ­Britain has 153 per 100,000

And it’s a rapidly exaggerating trend: In 1980, the U.S. only had 150 prisoners per 100,000 citizens. More than half of America’s 6 million prisoners are in jail for drug convictions, with 80% of those in jail for “possession.”

Speaking at the National Association of Attorneys General, Biden was quoted as saying that while he took nearly 8,000 train trips as a senator, the Secret Service insisted he travel by air as Vice President because the Amtrak ‘gives too many opportunities for people to interact with me in a way they wouldn’t like to see.’

But Biden has successfully argued that looming budget cuts have changed the terms of the debate. ‘I was able to say, ‘Look guys, I’ve got to take the train now - it’s cheaper than flying.’ So I get to take the train again.’ [x]

Its all just for show people! This sequester wouldn’t have happened if the government didn’t want it to. The Congress and the Feds are all a bunch of liars. They have been pulling the wool over our eyes for decades, its time to wake up people!

Idk if this counts as a peeve more of an art-astronomy pet peeve

but when people draw the cresent moon and where the dark, shaddowed part of the moon is they put in stars

like studdenly that part of the moon is invisible instead of just being in the shadow

like wtf

wait no peOPLE ACTUALLY DO THIS???

 really stupid question though but like, aren’t there stars in front of the moon??? like??? space isn’t two dimensional so someone putting a couple stars in front of the shadow wouldn’t necessarily be wrong?? because aren’t there stars all around in space and?????? im just going to be confused forever frick uvu;
